Enceladus, a wee moon of Saturn, has been detected as emitting an immense plume of water vapour by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. Water expelled from Enceladus may be significantly impacting the surrounding environment and reaching other celestial bodies within Saturn's system.
Enceladus was known to have water vapour plumes in the past. Still, this new discovery is truly astounding because this plume extends up to 100 kilometres above the surface and is several hundred kilometres wide. Water is being released in a staggering quantity from Enceladus, raising questions about its composition and its source, likely its ocean.
